一、灵活使用多种时态
综合口语救生圈6万多考生的口语回答来看，大多数考生使用的时态多以一般现在时、一般过去时、一般将来时、现在完成时为主。如果想在语法结构的多样性上拿高分，还应该多尝试使用以下的几种时态。
例1. I started to use Weibo and Wechat two years ago and had been spending a lot of time on them up until a few months ago.
以上句子中，前面部分的句子I started to use Weibo and Wechat two years ago表示：我在两年前开始使用微博，微信；后面的句子意思是直到几个月前，我都一直把大部分的时间花在刷微博、微信上。这里表示在过去某个时段以前一直在持续做的事情/动作，所以用了过去完成进行时。
例2. It had been less than a year since I got my new iPhone,
and it was like my favorite gadget on earth.
以上划线句子中，since引导的时间状语从句中使用了过去时，主句则对应使用过去完成时，表示意思为：我当时得到我的iphone手机还不到一年。
例3. Getting too attached to social media took away a lot of the time that I could have spent with the people around me.
以上句子中使用了定语从句that I could have spent with the people around me用以修饰the time，定语从句中使用了情态动词完成时态could have done的用法，更好地体现出了考生原本想把时间用在与周围的人沟通交流中，但是却没有这样做到的遗憾心情。
二、合理使用并列句/复合句
1. Not only...but also...
例：Noise can be a huge distraction for me, it not only draws my attention away from my study, but also makes me feel upset.
从Not only...but also可以看出这是一个并列句，详细地解释了噪音的影响：不仅分散我的学习注意力，而且让我感到心烦意乱。
2. Neither引导的倒装句
例：I don't have her number, neither do my friends who used to be in the same class with me.
为了避免和前一句话的内容重复，英语中习惯用so,neither引导的倒装句。这句话中，neither的使用对前一句话进行了补充说明：我没有她的号码，以前和我一起上课的朋友也没有。
3. 定语从句
例：I believe these are some of the reasons why I would very much like to become a regular there.
这是一个复合句，包含多个从句：I believe...引导的宾语从句、why引导的定语从句修饰the reason，同时含有there be句型。
4. 让步状语从句
例：Although I heard the noisy sound of the train passing by my ears，still I could focus on reading...
这也是一个复合句，although…….， still…….的让步状语从句是一个亮点，表示我虽然听到了火车经过的声音，我还能专心读书。
5. 条件状语从句（虚拟语气）
例1：
I thought it would help make a more informed decision,if I could have a taste of what it was like down there.
这句话中主要使用了if引导的虚拟语气，表示如果我能体验一下在澳洲的生活，它能帮助我做出一个更明智的决定。
例2：
If it weren't for this app, ordinary people like us, especially those are not exactly photogenic, wouldn't be able to, you know, literally change how we look, and share our movie star-like photos on the web.
句子中If it weren't for是对现在事实相反情况的虚拟，表示如果不是这个app，像我们这样的平常人，尤其是不很上镜的人，不可能真的能改变我们的相貌，然后把我们像明星一样的美图分享到网上。
例3：
I wish I could cook. If I could, I would invite my friends over for dinner.
动词wish后接宾语从句时，从句谓语要用虚拟语气。这句话是用I wish表达愿望。后面句子从句中使用的是If I could, 也是对现在事实相反情况的虚拟，表示如果我会煮饭，我就邀请我朋友来吃晚餐。
